Originally based in North Vancouver under the name John B. Haley & Associates, our doors first opened in 1989. Since then our name has changed, partners and staff have been added, and more offices have been opened. Yet with all these changes, the service our clients have come to know and expect hasn’t.
We care about what we do and how it affects our community. Among other things, we try to have an impact through our corporate volunteer days, serving on various not-for-profit boards, and running a paper-smart office.

Mr. Smith’s background includes experience in operating and exploration mining companies throughout North and South America. He brings audit experience from two of Vancouver’s most respected audit and accounting firms and has audit experience in mining companies with reporting for TSX, TSX Venture and AMEX. His management background extends over 20 years and includes a diverse variety of operations and organizations some of the highlights include:
- Managing for Canada GardenWorks in BC and Alberta, Grant gives a great deal of credit to John Zaplatynsky (President of GardenWorks) for all of the things he does well and takes all the responsibility for those he does poorly);
- Being the production manager in theatres through-out Alberta and Ontario, including Alberta Theatre Projects and Huron Country Playhouse;
- Teaching from Maple Ridge to York University in Toronto;
- On a personal note he will tell anyone who will listen that his proudest achievement is the love and respect that he shares with his family – Joanne and the kids: John and Brenda (Brody and Aubrey), Megan and Mac, Luke and Nicki, and most important Eowyn (who makes his eyes twinkle).

Jeff's diverse experience includes an extensive number of owner-manager and family owned businesses, as well as a background in not-for-profit organizations and public companies; ranging from social housing cooperatives to exploration and mining companies. Jeff''s main focus is providing accounting and taxation services to businesses and individuals in a variety of fields such as construction and contracting, wholesale and retail, incorporated professionals and investment holding companies, to name a few. Jeff also serves as the Chief Financial Officer and provides CFO services for a host of public sector mining and exploration companies listed on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange. Jeff obtained his Bachelors of Business Administration Degree with Trinity Western University and his Chartered Accountant designation with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Vancouver, BC. Jeff is married with one child (soon to be two). When not in the office, you can find him as early as April waterskiing the chilly waters of Cultus Lake, exploring BC's backcountry on dirt-bike, or setting off on a backpacking adventure overseas.

After receiving a bachelor of business administration degree from SFU, Larissa articled and earned her chartered accountant designation with PricewaterhouseCoopers. She then spent 3 years working for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Cayman Islands gaining audit experience in the financial services industry. While in the Cayman Islands, Larissa was active in Girl Guides as a leader for a local Guide group and was also involved in environmental issues, working with a team to decrease the use of plastic bags on the Island.
Larissa also has extensive experience with both accounting and taxation for privately owned Canadian corporations and in personal taxation. Larissa’s passion is working with small and owner managed business to help them succeed and she has a keen interest in developing relationships with her clients and understanding their needs.
Outside of Clearline Larissa is gaining an in depth knowledge of the construction industry with her involvement in building a new house in the South Surrey area. She also enjoys playing a good game of recreational slo-pitch, attending open houses to see what is new in local real estate, and travelling to visit the friends she’s made who live throughout the world.

Baljit recently joined the White Rock office Clearline Chartered Accountants and brings with her over 15 years of public practice experience with a focus on and a passion for serving owner managed businesses. She provides all aspects of accounting and tax services to her clients including payroll, HST and personal tax services. She has extensive experience in a variety of industries ranging from construction to incorporated professionals to investment holding companies. Her emphasis has always been on ensuring that a client’s needs are being met. When Baljit is not in the office you can find her driving her 2 wonderful sons from one activity to the next.

Patrick received his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of British Columbia in 2007 and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 2010. His primary role at Clearline is the management of the assurance and taxation areas of the practice, however his role is shifting more towards tax compliance as he is currently enrolled in the CICA In-depth tax program. Patrick is proud to have contributed to Clearline’s 100% pass rate on the UFE. Patrick is an avid tournament tennis player and can be found either on a local tennis court or riding his bike when not at work.

Mabel joined Clearline Chartered Accountants in September 2010. Mabel brings with her over three years of public practice experience from a mid-size accounting firm. She has worked on a variety of engagements primarily for owner-managed companies. Mabel is currently completing her PACE level in the CGA program and has obtained a diploma in Business Administration from Capilano University and a Financial Management diploma from BCIT. Mabel enjoys travelling through Europe, trying new restaurants and cuisines and spending time with family and friends. On sunny days, Mabel can be found kayaking in Deep Cove or biking around the Sea Wall.

Dave Block joined the firm in May of 2010. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 2008 from Trinity Western University. Here at Clearline, Dave works out of the downtown Vancouver office where he services public companies operating in the mining and mineral exploration industry. Dave also owns and operates a small-business consulting firm servicing the local business community in the Greater Vancouver area. Dave obtained his Private Pilot License in 2005, and in his spare time enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and golfing.

Neville & Company for 2 years as an Office Assistant in the tax department and prior to that she worked for over 10 years as a Conveyancer and an Office Administrator for a number of private law firms in the Lower Mainland.
In her spare time, Wendy loves spending time with her husband, Ron, and four beautiful children, Vanessa, Anjali, Justin, and Jordan at her home in Cloverdale. Outside of the company of family and close friends, Wendy enjoys playing the piano. Wendy’s training, education, and personal qualities will provide excellent service to the firm’s clients.
